Below is a sample gear chart that illustrates the differences in gear selection. Depending on the ration your vehicle could get good fuel economy but poor power. Not the ideal situation for racers or off-roaders. On the other side of the scale you could provide yourself with tons of power but really poor fuel economy. This is probably only good if your going down the track or trailering your off-road vehicle to the site. More than likely you selection would put you somewhere in the middle of the economy/power band for best overall performance.
Note that the scale above is based on 65 MPH and a 1 to 1 gear ratio with a manual transmission in 4th gear. With an automatic transmission your rpms will be higher due to slippage in the transmission and the torque converter.
